Their energetic performances is one of the reasons why One Direction are now worldwide superstars.

But it seems that Louis Tomlinson got a little bit over-excited during the boy band’s Belfast concert this week, injuring his knee during the Irish leg of the Take Me Home tour.

Obviously upset that his injury has left him having to hobble through the band’s songs, the 21-year-old apologised to his fans on his Twitter account.

The young singer, who has been touring the UK and Ireland with One Direction since the beginning of the year may have over-exerted himself during one high-energy routine, leaving himself with a painful leg.

And the results of his injuries were clear to see as he spent Monday’s show limping around the stage rather than joining in with the others boys.

Obviously embarrassed about his poor knee, the heartthrob decided to aplogise to all of his fans on Twitter for the fact that he wouldn’t be able to give his usual calibre of high-energy performing for the next few days.

‘Ah well f**k it . I apologise if I’m not jumping around on stage as much , stupid knee ! #kneedtogetbetter ( terrible joke),’ he wrote, cracking a joke in the process.

Not long before Louis had clearly been feeling sorry for himself, writing: ‘Knee hurts :(,’ before adding yet another sad face for added drama.

And the former X Factor star got some extra sympathy from band-mate Niall Horan, who tweeted: ‘Belfast! That was an amazing , poor aul Tommo an his knee! Hahaha! Great week up here ! See ya soon! #1DTMHT.’

But Louis won’t have long to recuperate as the band are going to be on the road for much of the year, touring the rest of the UK before heading to the US in June.

The band have also just announced an extra date for their sell-out tour, which will be at London’s O2 Arena on 6 April.

While Liam was resting his knee during the boys’ Dublin, band-mate Harry Styles and Niall were making the most of the nightlife.

ONE Direction kicked off their world tour in style this afternoon with a massive London show.

The chart-topping quintet of Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan, packed out the O2 Arena for a matinee performance.

And after the event a thrilled Louis tweeted: “Loved it !!!!”

Girls flocked to the south London venue with messages of love for their idols.

One held a picture of Harry aloft simply reading: “I heart you Harry.”

While another banner professed adoration for both Harry and Louis with the message: “U are hot, cute and handsome.”

But there was much love for the whole group outside the capital’s concert venue.

The boys went for a casual look on stage with Liam wearing a simple T-shirt with the CND logo on it.

At one point he took a rest by parking his bum on a convenient speaker.

Niall and Louis enjoyed an elegant twirl in the middle of the stage.

Heart-throb Harry — who showed his appreciation for the Rolling Stones in a rock legend’s top — tweeted before the gig: “Tomorrow. Boom Baby.”

Niall posted a snap of the venue and tweeted: “It’s happening ! We’re here #TMHtour is kicking off.”

And it’s going to be hectic year for the youngsters as their world tour sees them staying in the UK until April 19 before heading to Europe and the US.

They will be on the road until November when the tour comes to an end in Japan.

Liam also showed his excitement by tweeting “Tour dayyyyy! :)”

And the guys are going to be Up All NIght performing their evening show.

Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan have taken to Twitter to hit back at Jake Bugg’s critical comments on their band One Direction.

Louis, 21, and Niall, 19, aired their grievances with the 18-year-old singers thoughts on One Direction that he made in an interview with Shortlist magazine.

Niall was the first to make his thoughts known, taking a somewhat light hearted approach to the criticisms made by Bugg via Twitter.

He wrote: “Really buggs me that artists we’re fans of ,flip on us in the press !”

Very clever Niall, very clever indeed.

Niall’s band mate Louis Tomlinson however was far less subtle in his approach, directly addressing the singer.

He posted: “Hi @JakeBugg do you think slagging off boy bands makes you more indie?”

Jake previously told Shortlist: “People [call One Direction the new Beatles] because they broke America, but that don’t mean a thing.

“I mean, [One Direction] must know that they’re terrible.

“They must know … calling them the new rock stars is a ridiculous statement. And people should stop making it.”

And this is not the first time that Jake has slagged off the band.

He told Q magazine last year: “I don’t care about the word ‘pop’… sadly what’s popular today is most manufactured and commercial and all about fame and looks and boy bands.

“It’s not on. One Direction? The young girls will grow up and forget about ‘em.”

We’re getting the distinct impression that Jake isn’t a fan of the 1D boys.

As his date at the Brit, the 80s superstar took along his young niece, Molly Fitzpatrick — and was angered when a certain boybander failed to stop for a photo opp with her.

“Top marks to Harry Styles for stopping for a picture with my niece,” tweeted the singer, who also praised Lana Del Rey, Jessie J and Emilie Sande as the evening’s biggest highlights. “And Bollox’s to Liam [Payne] and the disrespectful w**ker of a minder!’”

One Direction-er Payne, 19, rebutted via Twitter, claiming the elder star mistook him for a different member of the boy band. “Now now boy lets not tell porkies firstly thanks for getting my name wrong three times secondly then asking me where is liam?…awkward. We’re guessing it involves tattoos of each other’s faces

One Direction have been beavering away in the studio for what seems like our entire lives, but it’s all been worth the wait as apparently they’ve got some big news to reveal on Thursday at 1pm GMT.

There are very few details about what it is the lads are getting ready to reveal, but it sounds like all the suspense has got Liam jumping up and down in a way we can only imagine is very similar to a small boy desperate for a wee.

“Can’t wait to let u all know the news. Only a few dayssss to wait,” he tweeted. [sic]

“Guys as you know we’ve been in studio a lot lately…Big announcement coming Thursday night! Can’t wait to tell you all,” Niall added.

If that’s not enough to get you doing the portaloo hop, the lads have also posted several rather cryptic messages on their Facebook page that make us think it might even be revealed later on this week.

“This Thursday and Friday something *massive* is going down in 1D world,” the first message reads, followed by another post saying, “The boys are up to something *really* exciting today – what do you all think it could be?”

Now it’s all a very big mystery as to what this is all actually about but naturally we’ve come up with a few theories that we could see being very likely.

1. The lads have sent Liam off on a confidence course to finally conquer his crippling fear of spoons. By Friday he will be cured and ready to be released on the world as a totally new man. The lads will celebrate by performing a rendition of What Makes You Beautiful with Liam taking centre stage and playing percussion on a whole handful of spoons.

2. They’re all getting tattoos of each other’s faces. On their faces.

3. Having always felt a sassy hole in his life, the lads have finally tracked down Louis’ distant sasquatch relatives. In a Blind Date type scenario, Harry will take on the role of Cilla Black as he and the lads finally reunite Luigi with his sassy relations before releasing them all back into the wild.

4. Then again, maybe they are going to make some sort of grand announcement about the new album / first single / filming a new music video.

To be honest, we have no idea what they are up to, but we really can’t help hoping it features a sasquatch family. But what do you think it might be?

One Direction member Zayn Malik has not only cut down on his Twitter posts, but decided to deactivate his account all together—but not before giving his fans an explanation.

Before pulling the plug on his account, Malik wrote, “The reason i don’t tweet as much as i use to, is because I’m sick of all the useless opinions and hate that i get daily goodbye twitter :) My fans that have something nice to say can tweet me on the one direction account , :) x”

One Direction fans, rejoice: the British pop stars are expected to perform at the closing ceremonies of the 2012 Olympics, along with singer Ed Sheeran, among others.

As HuffPost UK reports, One Direction is one of England’s biggest musical ­exports right now, so it seems only fitting the boys take the stage during the closing event in their home country.

Although the news has yet to be confirmed, the teen twitterverse erupted in excitement when the unofficial twitter account dedicated to breaking olympic news, @updateolympic, wrote: “Yes it’s true… Ed Sheeran, One Direction, Jesse J, Taio Cruz and Tinie Tempah will be performing at the closing Ceremony of The Olympics.”

The boys, themselves, haven’t been shy about their love for the Games. Niall Horan recently tweeted: “Dont know if its just me, but the excitement in london is unbelievable! Its gona be a great games.” And Liam Payne revealed his own personal connection to the event: “If i wasnt in 1D , running in the olympics would of been my dream :),” he tweeted.

The ‘One Thing’ singer and his bandmates agree that his mum makes “great” food at home.

One Direction star Niall Horan says bandmate Zayn Malik’s mum makes “great” food and the band miss her cooking while out on tour.

The ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ star praised his mum’s home cooking while Niall admitted he could eat “so much” of it, while discussing the home comforts they miss out on the road.

“I love samosas filled with mincemeat,” Zayn revealed to The Sun this week. “My mum makes really great ones.

“Zayn’s mum makes such good food,” Niall added. “I can eat so much!”

The ‘Gotta Be You’ singers arrived back in the UK earlier this month after spending several weeks on tour in America, and are now hard at work on the follow-up to their 2011 debut album ‘Up All Night’.

“Great day! Working hard! Loving it!” Niall tweeted yesterday (19th July). “Long day! But great! Gona get a curry and an early night, #needtosleep.”

Earlier this week One Direction met up with several members of fellow boy band Mcfly for a songwriting session, and praised the ‘Lies’ stars for helping them write some great songs.

Harry Styles posted: “Great writing session yesterday with @Dannymcfly @tommcfly and @dougiemcfly!! Can’t wait to work on the stuff…”

‘Gotta Be You’ star Harry also unveiled his brand new tattoo yesterday while meeting some of the band’s fans outside their record label, having gotten a small letter ‘A’ on his left arm, reportedly as a tribute to his mum Anne.

One Direction have hinted that they may release a new single this September.

Sounds like our kind of party

It’s no secret that One Direction are working on some songs with McFly for their new album and yesterday the lads all got together for a studio session to come up with some ideas.

After the lads were spotted coming out of the offices of their label, Sony, earlier in the day, they headed over to Tom Fletcher’s pad for a brainstorming session for their new tracks.

“Had the 1D boys over my place today for some song writing,” Tom tweeted.

Although Harry Judd was off glamming himself up to head to the premiere of The Dark Knight Rises, it sounds like the rest of the lads had a productive time. Well, at least when it comes to having fun anyway.

Tweeting about all that male bonding, Danny couldn’t resist a bit of banter, saying: “Great sesh today with @Harry_Styles @NiallOfficial @Real_Liam_Payne @Louis_Tomlinson @zaynmalik1D Great hangin! Shame about ya fifa skills!” [sic]

Here they are with someone who coincidentally looks a bit like Niall..

1D seemed rather excited to be writing new material too, with Harry also tweeting the next morning to say: “Great writing session yesterday with @Dannymcfly @tommcfly and @dougiemcfly !! Can’t wait to work on the stuff..”

Unfortunately Niall seems a little overwhelmed to be working in such close proximity to the lovely McFly, enjoying the action so much that we’ were a touch worried he was about to have a litle accident on the floor.

“Great session today with @Dannymcfly @dougiemcfly @tommcfly, famous words of danny,”if we cant write a song,we’ll have a laugh ! Haha,” he tweeted.

“This one photo describes the session with the lads today hahaha @tommcfly.”

We’re kinda hoping that multi-coloured banjos like this one will make it on the next 1D tour. Being the king of all things sassy, Louis would naturally get first dibs on the pink one.

Liam Payne learned the hard way that Twitter can be a nasty breeding ground for jealous fangirls.

The One Direction singer, who is dating dancer Danielle Peazer, was outraged when users of the site tweeted derogatory comments about his girlfriend.

“Just as I start to like twitter again I see the nasty side of people who like to dislike somebody who makes me … Me,” he wrote Sunday.

“#SometimesIHateTwitter when it becomes a place to abuse people who uve never met never did anything to you but you still choose to be cruel,” he added.

Liam told “all those horrible people who are going to be dicks and tweet her horrible stuff now just because i mentioned it” to “grow up.”

He was quick to clarify, however, that he appreciates “all those people are who are nice” and said his girlfriend “often reads me nice things people say to her and it makes me smile love you guys.”

Liam wasn’t afraid to stand up for his lady, and Harry Styles wasn’t fazed when his bandmates stripped him down for the fans!

Niall Horan has become the latest One Direction heartthrob to break the hearts of teenage girls all over the world after his dad revealed that he is in love with a local lady.

‘There’s a local girl that Niall loves. I know he thinks of her as his sweetheart,’ dad Bobby told heat magazine.

‘She’s very attractive, and they’re close, but I don’t know whether he’s made any advances on her yet. I’m not going to embarrass her by giving her name, though.’

Of the mystery woman, he added, ‘She would stand her ground with any of these beautiful celebrities. She’s a brunette with big brown eyes and pale skin like Niall’s. She’s from the town but the other end to us, and I always knew Niall has big feelings for her.’

But despite the teenager’s hot celebrity status Bobby insists his son has never had an actual girlfriend.

He continued: ‘He never really brought girls home. He had some girls that were friends and they would all sit on the wall outside together, but that was all.

‘He’s never had a real girlfriend… He went to an all-boys’ school so it was hard to meet girls, but that’s certainly changed now.’

But that doesn’t mean to say 51-year-old Bobby – who works as a butcher –  doesn’t think the More Than This singer has dabbled with relationships.

He adds, ‘I don’t believe he’s a virgin. I couldn’t say, and I wasn’t in the house all the time, so I don’t really know what went on when I wasn’t there.’

The boy band is currently recording in Sweden ahead of their US tour with Olly Murs.

And Niall couldn’t be more excited.

He tweeted yesterday: ‘@ollyofficial happy birthday mate… what are ya 35? ahaha.. not too long now til america, gona be great on the road bro…’

The Irish teen also found a spare minute to catch up with fellow X Factor export Cher Lloyd, who is currently on a promotional tour of the US.

What’s going on, Luigi?

Louis Tomlinson isn’t the most mysterious person we’ve come across, and that’s fine. Not everyone can be Zayn Malik, or have extra nipples and testicles like Harry Styles.

However, the One Direction singer has been keeping a secret and holding something back for a while now.

“I am 1/8 Belgian. It’s a secret that I’ve had embedded in my life for a long time,” he told Australian radio hosts Fifi and Jules, proud of his exotic blood.

This revelation threw the Sugarscape office into disarray, 1/8 Belgian? we cried, while having flashbacks of maths and trying to draw charts of grandparents to work out Louis’ heritage.

Just as we finally worked out where the Flemish was in the Tomlinson bloodline (a great grandparent?), the Tomlinator only went and tweeted this:

WHAT? HOW? WE DON’T UNDERSTAND. STOP TALKING AT US IN MATHS. The caps were completely appropriate then.

Are they or aren’t they? MTV News investigates!

It seems that love might be in the air for Taylor Swift and One Direction singer Harry Styles. The rumor mill is spinning out of control that the country/pop superstar and the boy bander are crushing on each other.

Rumor has it that Justin Bieber, Swift’s onetime Punker, knows a big-time star who has a crush on Styles, but the Biebs swears he’s been “sworn to secrecy” and can’t reveal who it is.

But according to Daily Mail sources, after the twosome met at the Kids’ Choice Awards last month, Swift told her pal Bieber that she kind of has a crush on Styles.

“Taylor is a huge One Direction fan and was excitedly bopping along to the boys when they performed onstage. Then she was chatting to Justin and told him how hot she found Harry,” the source said. “Taylor went backstage and was hanging around by the group’s dressing room and said a quick ‘hello’ to the guys.”

The source continued that “she started dramatically fanning herself afterwards making out like she was overwhelmed which got everyone laughing. She really likes Harry but made Justin promise not to go on the record about it.”

Judging by the interview MTV News did with 1D last week, the way the guys teased the mop-topped Styles about Swift, we’re guessing something is afoot. Both parties have yet to comment on the speculation.

Since his rise to fame, Styles has been linked to a few ladies, including New York-based photographer Sarah-Louise Colivet, 24, and 19-year-old singer Lily Halpern. For those wondering if Swift, 22, might be a few years too old for the 18-year-old Styles, his last girlfriend, British TV presenter Caroline Flack, was 32.

Harry isn’t the only 1D-er being linked to American singers. Fans have been wondering if Niall Horan and Demi Lovato might become a couple after she revealed she thinks he’s “so adorable.” His response, per the Daily Mail, “I’d like to see her all right and she’s a similar age. She seems to be a nice girl. It’d be good.” He also tweeted at her after her MTV documentary, “Stay Strong,” aired, calling it an “amazing story.”
